Internal medicine is adult medicine. It is the part of primary care built around people who are managing more than one thing at once: blood pressure and cholesterol and blood sugar, a thyroid that needs watching, kidney function that has been drifting, and a medication list that has grown a line at a time over several years.
That is most adults past a certain age, and it is badly served by fifteen minute appointments.
What this actually looks like here
One list, read as a whole. Your first visit runs 45 minutes and a real medication review is part of it. Bring the bottles or photograph them. A surprising share of what looks like a new symptom turns out to be a drug started in 2021 for a problem you no longer have, or two prescriptions from two specialists that should not be taken together.
Conditions managed against each other, not separately. Blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, weight and kidney function are one interconnected problem in most people. A practice that treats them as five separate appointments is not managing anything. The medication that helps your blood sugar may be the one that protects your kidneys, and that decision only gets made by somebody looking at both.

Continuity you can choose. Book with the same provider and the person adjusting your medication is the person who saw what happened the last three times. That is the mechanism that makes any of this work.
Who you see
Dr. Farhan Abdullah, DO is board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, sees patients here, and serves as our Medical Director. He sets the clinical standards this practice follows and reviews the clinical content on this site. He also practices as a hospitalist, which is a useful vantage point for a practice built around keeping people out of hospital beds.
What we manage
Type 2 diabetes and prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, thyroid disease, chronic kidney disease, sleep apnea, obesity, fatty liver, and the ordinary business of being unwell.
Alongside that, the preventive work that decides how the next decade goes: annual physicals, cancer and cardiovascular screening, and Medicare Annual Wellness Visits.
Coordinating with your specialists
If you see a cardiologist, a nephrologist and an endocrinologist, each of them is doing their job well inside their lane. Nobody is reading across all three.
Bring the names and we request the notes. Referrals fail at the handoff far more often than they fail at the decision, so we follow up on whether the appointment actually happened rather than documenting it and moving on.

What is the difference between internal medicine and family medicine?
Internal medicine is adult medicine. Family medicine covers every age from newborns up. In practice the difference shows up most with adults carrying several conditions at once, where internal medicine training is built around exactly that. We are an adult practice, so we see patients age 16 and older.
Who will I see at my visit?
Dr. Farhan Abdullah, DO, board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and our Medical Director, or Rachael Bowen, NP, a Family Nurse Practitioner. Both work from the same chart. Internal medicine works best when one person follows you over time, so book with the same provider each visit if you can.
I have four specialists and nobody talks to each other. Can you help?
That is a large part of what this is for. Bring the names and we request their notes, so one person is finally looking at the whole medication list and the whole picture rather than one organ at a time.
