New Patients in Southlake, TX

Your first visit is about 45 minutes with Rachael Bowen, NP or Dr. Farhan Abdullah, DO. Most of it is conversation rather than paperwork, as long as you bring a few things with you.

What to bring

  • Photo ID and your insurance card. Both, every visit, not only the first.
  • Every medication you take. The bottles beat a list. Include supplements, vitamins and anything over the counter, because those interact too.
  • Recent labs or imaging if you have them. We would rather read your last two years of numbers than start from zero.
  • Names of your other doctors, including specialists, so we can coordinate instead of duplicating.
  • Family history as far as you know it, particularly heart disease, cancer and diabetes, and the ages at diagnosis.
  • Your questions, written down. People forget them in the room constantly.

What happens at the visit

Your provider goes through your history, your medications and what is actually bothering you, then examines you. If you need labs, we draw them here so there is no second trip.

You leave with a written plan: what we are watching, what we are treating, what you are due for, and when to come back. Results arrive through the portal in two to three business days with an explanation attached, not a list of flagged values.

Who we care for

Patients age 16 and older. We do not provide pediatric care, prenatal care or emergency care. For an emergency call 911. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988.

First visit questions

How early should I arrive?

Fifteen minutes before your appointment if you have not filled out forms ahead of time. If you have, ten minutes is plenty.

How long will my first visit take?

Plan on 45 minutes. Add about 15 more if you want labs drawn the same day, which most people do.

Should I fast for my first appointment?

If we are likely to check cholesterol or fasting glucose, yes, for 9 to 12 hours. Keep drinking water and take your regular medications unless told otherwise. If you are unsure, call and ask.

How do I get my records sent over?

Sign a records release at your visit and we request them. Bringing a recent lab printout or a hospital discharge summary speeds things up considerably.

When will I get my lab results?

Usually two to three business days, through the portal, with a plain-language note explaining what the numbers mean. If something needs a conversation, we call you.
